Peak District Caving News February 2003

Suspicious Car

Report FromRalph Johnson.
Report Date14/03/2003.
Published14/03/2003.

Last Wed (12th) a group (CCPC) were about to go down Sidetrack Cave (Eldon Quarry) when a white Peugeot estate with roof rack (Reg T or J) with 2 passengers pulled up and appeared to be showing interest in their cars. They decided to investigate at which point the car disappeared at speed. The group were sufficiently concerened to do the cave in 2 shifts while the other half watched the vehicles. Could be nothing but if you are caving in the area it might pay to be cautious.

Clear Up in Peak Cavern's Moss Chamber

Report FromWayne Sheldon TSG.
Report Date25/03/2003.
Published25/03/2003.

The 18th of January saw myself and other members of the Technical Speleological Group undertake a clear-up of the Moss Chamber area and the passages preceding it. Most of the rubbish was in the lower right-hand corner of Moss Chamber, in the area of the dig that was begun in an attempt to reach Neil Moss in 1959. This was partly refilled in with boulders but underneath there were remains of timber, flash bulbs, rotting canisters and remains of caving gear. This was all bagged up into two tackle sacks and removed. The timber aid at the end of Pickerings Passage was also removed. A good day enjoyed by all.
