PEAK DISTRICT CAVING: NEWS: SEPTEMBER 2009

Bagshawe Cavern

Diving Update.

Report FromJohn Taylor (personal communication).
Report Date19/09/2009.
Published19/09/2009.

Over the summer divers John Taylor and Simon Cornhill have continued to push upstream (south) in Bagshawe Cavern's Far Drought sump to a point 100m from dive base. The sump reaches a maximum depth of -5m with the current limit of exploration at -2m. The way on is obvious but a number of rocks will have to be removed to allow further progress. Due to the logistics of diving this site concentration has switched to Bagshawe's downstream sump which has been pushed 20m (30m from base) NWW. This is heading towards the upstream end of the Far Drought Sump with a current separation of approximately 300m. It is possible that somewhere in between is the much sught after feeder to the system.
