Entrance of Sallet Hole Mine

Adit sealed with steel doors - no entry. Long partially-flooded adit (300m) leads into extensive mine workings on several levels both up and down from adit level, worked for lead from late 18th Century until early 20th Century, followed by re-working (with massive expansion) as a fluorite mine. Workings are very dangerous in places, going through highly unstable lava/tuff/ash beds which are regularly collapsing, rusty steel roof supports and ladderways and with very heavy water flows to the lower levels. Do not take unnecessary risks in this site
