Critchlow Cave

Entrance of Critchlow Cave

Access

Entrances located inside boundary of National Nature Reserve and access subject to terms of formal agreement between DCA & Natural England (see DCA website for details). No prior permission required, but all visiting groups must be affiliated to the British Caving Association.

This site is part of the DCA SSSI Conservation Monitoring Scheme.
See the DCA website for competition details.

Warning

The whole cave can fill to the roof in flood, and a stream can flow from the entrance. The cave often sumps in wet winter months at Eccles' Limit, cutting off the draught. A trip to the far end is an arduous undertaking even in dry conditions, and rescue would be extremely difficult.
